Overview: It was humid with temperatures in the 90’s without much wind during this morning’s round. I made plenty of birdies on the par 4’s and 5’s, but I can definitely improve on my play on the par 3’s.
Highlites:
#1: Driver down the left side of the fairway and then pitching wedge from 127 to 20 feet. From there I made the putt for birdie.
#2: 3-iron down the middle of the fairway to 85 yards from the flag. From there I hit 60 degree lob wedge to 5 feet and made the putt for birdie.
#3: Driver into the left fairway bunker. From there I hit a knock down pitching wedge to 8 feet and made the putt for birdie.
#11: Driver down the middle of the fairway and then gap wedge from 117 yards to 15 feet. From there I made the putt for birdie.
#14: Driver down the right side of the fairway on the uphill par 5. From 260 yards I hit 3 wood to just in front of the green and chipped to 2 inches for an easy birdie.
#17: Driver down the middle of the fairway. Then 3 wood to 39 yards from the hole. From there I hit lob wedge to 12 feet and made the putt for birdie.
Positives: My putting is solid. My mental game is solid. I hit two really good 3-woods on the back 9 to put myself in great position for birdies on the last two par 5’s.
Areas to improve: I didn’t quite complete my backswing on my long irons today which lead to some misses in really bad spots on the par 3’s. Every part of my game was good enough to win except for my long irons. I will focus on them more this week when I practice.
