Here’s a little known fact: Correct width of stance is vital to your success in golf.
The pictures below show me at the top of the back-swing and the finish position. I’m using a sand wedge to hit 4 different shots.
On my short shots my stance is narrow. Because I am not making a big swing, I do not need a wide stance for balance. Also, the main reason for a narrow stance on the little shots is that I can rotate my body without generating too much power. When I turn my body through to the finish, the short swing is just a miniature version of the full swing.
If my stance is too wide on the short shot, it prevents my body from turning through to the finish. And, if my lower body is not turning through impact, I have no choice but to stab at the ball with my hands and arms which leads to inconsistent ball striking.
