Overview: Perfect weather and the course was in great shape. It was good to make a lot of birdies, and even though I made a lot of bogeys, there are a lot of positives to take away from this tournament. I was right near the cut line and definitely felt some pressure the second round, so I was happy that I played solid and gave myself a lot of birdie looks the second day even though nothing fell.
Highlites Day One:
#2. Driver into right rough. Then 3-wood to 54 yards short, left of the green. Then pitched to 20 feet and made the putt for birdie.
#3. Driver down the middle. Then sand wedge from 104 yards to 15 feet and made the putt for birdie.
#4. Driver down the middle. Then 5 iron into greenside bunker. Then splashed to 3 feet and made the putt for birdie.
#7. Driver down the middle of the fairway. Then lob wedge over the green. Then made a 20 foot putt from about 10 feet off the green for birdie.
#10. Driver into right trees. Then layed up with an 8-iron. Then hit lob wedge to 3 feet from 90 yards for an easy birdie.
#12. Driver into right trees. Then hit a high sand wedge through a small hole in the branches to 15 feet and made the putt for birdie.
#14. Driver into right rough. Then hit lob wedge to 15 feet and made the putt for birdie.
#15. Driver into left rough. Then hit hybrid to pin high right of the green. The chipped to 2 inches for an easy birdie.
Highlites Day Two:
#5. From 190 yards, I hit a cut 6 iron to 8 feet and made the putt for birdie.
Positives: My putter was on the first round. Only had 25 putts which included two 3-putts. Also, my touch around the green was good as well. And, I stuck to my process and did the best I could on every shot. I backed away a couple times each day when I wasn’t focused.
Areas to improve: Driving: I was missing too far right. I will practice aiming down the right and hitting a draw for my next tournament so that I don’t keep bailing out to the right. Also, my iron shots were not close enough to the hole the second day. I will practice staying in balance on my iron shots. Also, my putting was too tentative the second day. Next time in that situation, I will have a free-wheeling and aggressive attitude even when I’m on the cut line. Next time I will cut out the silly bogeys that came from the following: Three putting on two downhill putts, shooting the wrong yardage with my range-finder, taking the wrong club off two of the tees. I will stay aggressive and play to my potential which will be in the low 60’s.
