• Papago Golf Course: Pro-Scratch Golf League, 73

    Papago 3.16.15Overview:

It was perfect weather today at Papago Golf Course: About 90 degrees and 5 to 10 mph. wind. The golf course is in great shape with the greens running about an 11 on the stimp meter. This was my first round on a full-size course in over 3 weeks and I was a little rusty. However, even though my score wasn’t that great, I’m not too far off from shooting 6 or 7 shots lower.

Also, I had the pleasure of playing with a fellow pro named Matthew Kreider whom I have been teaching over the past 4 months. His game is really sharp and his swing is looking great… He shot 68! Look for great things from him in the coming months on the Dreamchasers Tour and Web.com Tour.

    Highlites:

#4 I hit a high cut, 21 degree hybrid to 15 feet and two-putted for par.

#5 Three-wood off the tee to 130 yards. I hit great pitching wedge to 5 feet and two putted for par.

#6 Driver into the left fairway bunker. I was 155 yards from the pin and about 5 feet from the high lip of the bunker. From there I hit a cut-lob 7-iron that went straight up in the air and finished 20 feet from the flag. Probably the best shot of the year so far! From there I two putted for par.

#9 Driver in the left fairway bunker and laid up to 92 yards. From there I hit a sand wedge to 8 feet and made the putt for birdie.

#15: Driver to 275 yards from the green. Then I hit 3-wood on the green to about 10 feet and two-putted for birdie.

#18: After hitting driver, 6-iron, I hit a chip to a couple inches and tapped in for par. Best chip of the day.

Positives: I had good looks at eagle on holes 1, 10 and 15. I just was too aggressive; running the ball too far by the hole and ended up settling for par on numbers 1 and 10.

Areas to Improve: Mental Game… I was only committed on 62 of 73 shots today. I took a break from practicing over the last couple weeks and it showed. I will get back to my practice routine asap! Also, short game, putting and ball-striking were not quite up to where I want them to be.

Thanks for following my blog! I’m looking forward to my next big tournament at the end of the month in Tucson. In the meantime, I will be practicing and giving golf lessons at Starfire Golf Course. Have a great week!
