Overview: It was another great day to play at Papago! Pretty hot with the temperature about 112 and the greens were a little bumpy from being punched a couple weeks ago. Papago is a great golf course with wide fairways, big greens and lengthy par 3’s.
Highlites:
#1. Driver down the middle of the fairway. Then, I hit my 21 degree hybrid from 248 yards onto the green 50 feet past the flag. I left my eagle putt a few feet short and ended up two-putting for birdie.
#7. Driver down the middle of the fairway. Then from 152 yards, I hit 9-iron to 6 feet and made the putt for birdie.
#10. Driver down the middle of the fairway. Then, from 202 yards I hit 6-iron pin-high just left of the green. From there I chipped to 4 feet and made the putt for birdie.
Positives: This was my first competitive round since working with my new mental game coach, Dr. Greg Steinberg. I am implementing a new pre-shot routine and practice routine that he recommended geared to help me perform better under pressure. It’s still a little early to see the full effect, but I can tell that my tournament scoring is going to go to a whole new level!
Areas to Improve: Implement my new pre-shot routine and practice routine getting dialed in with my wedge shot yardages. Pre-shot routine changes: Two smooth practice swings while feeling my swing to get me in the correct mindset, and then relax my jaw before I approach the ball. Practice changes: Put more pressure in my practice and also know the exact yardage of every practice shot I am going to hit. This will help me commit even more under pressure.
Thanks everyone following my progress! I appreciate your support and encouragement on this journey to winning on the PGA Tour!
