Overview: It was another nice day for golf… cold in the beginning, but warmed up as the day went on. On number 11 I started hitting the ball really well just like yesterday. Over the course of three days, I saw a pattern of swinging much better when the weather warmed up. Also, the greenskeeper set really good pin positions today around the edges of the green and around some steep slopes. I liked the challenge!
#9: Mis-hit my drive and it went into the right trees. From there I hit a punch 3-wood to left of the green from 250 yards. Then I hit a lob shot over the left greenside bunker to 10 feet and made the putt for birdie.
#13: Perfect drive 313 yards down the right side of the fairway. Then hit 7-iron from 167 yards to 20 feet and two-putted for birdie.
#14: Solid 8-iron from 155 yards to 25 feet left of the pin just on the fringe and then chipped in for birdie.
#15: 3-wood down the middle of the fairway and then a punch 9-iron from 125 yards to 20 feet and made par.
#16: 3-hybrid off the tee to middle of fairway and then 9-iron from 135 yard to 30 feet and 3-putted for bogey.
#17: 9-iron from 140 yards to 5 feet and made par.
#18: 3-hybrid off of the tee and then pitching wedge from 125 yards to 7 feet and made par.
Positives: I chipped in 3 times over the 3 day tournament. On number 13 I hit the longest drive I have hit since shoulder surgery (313 yards with no wind and a wet fairway.) Also, I started to dial in my yardages with my irons at the end of the round today.
Areas to improve: I will start practicing more in the early morning when it is cold. My shoulder didn’t exactly hurt, but I must have been guarding it a little when it was cold because I was not accelerating through impact like I did when it was warm. Also, over the course of the tournament, I successfully carried out my mental routine only about 40% of the time. I’m sure this is from not being in a tournament situation in a long time. During my next tournament, after every shot I am going to write down if I successfully carried out my mental routine (playing the shot in my head before I hit it and then staying committed to that feeling while I hit the ball.) I will get back to at least a 90% success rate when it comes to my mental routine of planning, committing to and evaluating every shot, and then low scores will start happening again.
