• Tournament Recap: AZ Golf Circuit – Legacy Golf Resort, Phoenix, AZ

Legacy 7.25.15Overview: It was a great day for golf at the Legacy Golf Resort today! A little hot with the temperature around 107, but the course was in great shape and there was a little breeze to help keep it a little cooler. It was an interesting round: I hit the first 10 greens and then missed the next 5. After the 15th hole, I realized that I must just be a little tired from teaching all morning, so I told myself just to keep my eye on the ball and make good contact. This righted the ship and I was able to give myself two good looks at birdie on 15 and 16 and then I chipped in from the edge of the green on 18 for an eagle!

    Highlites:

#5: Driver to 20 yards in front of the green. From there I chipped to 5 feet and made the putt for birdie.

#9: Driver down the right side of the fairway. Then 8-iron from 166 yards to 35 feet. I made the double breaking putt in the center of the hole at perfect speed.

#10: I hit a solid drive down the middle of the fairway. I had 119 yards to go to a pin that was in the back of the green and into about a 15 mph wind. I hit a low pitching wedge to 6 feet and made the putt for birdie.

#18: Driver down the left side of the fairway. From 235 yards I hit a punch 3 wood out of a bad lie to just in front of the green. From there I chipped a 52 degree gap wedge in the hole for eagle.

Positives: I’ve been working on getting a better coil with my lower body at the start of backswing which leads to more power. I hit 3 drives today just how I wanted. 340 yards downwind on #5, #8 and 300 yards into the wind on #10. Also, my putting is solid.

Areas to improve: When I missed greens, I was too tentative and left my chips too short on the soft greens. On number 18 I just told myself to make sure I got it there and it went in the hole at perfect speed. I will be more aggressive instead of protective on my chips in the future.
