• Checking your Shoulder Alignment

Shoulder alignment drillThis simple drill to check your shoulder alignment will train you to line your shoulders up correctly every time. Here’s how to do it:

Shoulders squareFirst, set up to the ball.

Shoulders square alignmentThen, without moving, take the golf club and lay the shaft across your shoulders. When you look down the line of the shaft it should be pointing parallel to your target line.

Shoulders openIf you are set up with your shoulders open (pointed left of the target)…

Shoulders open alignmentYou will easily be able to tell.

Shoulders closedAnd, if your shoulders are closed to the target line (set up too far to the right)…

Shoulders closed alignmentYou will be able to easily see that your shoulders are closed as well.

When you are sure that your shoulders are square to the target line, take time to memorize how much of your left shoulder you see out of the corner of your eye when you look at the target. This trick works really well for left-eye dominant people who are right handed.

If you are right-eye dominant, you will need to shut your right eye to see your left shoulder with your peripheral vision. (Left-handed golfers with a dominant left eye will need to shut their left eye to see their right shoulder.)

If you have been struggling to align your shoulders properly, spend a little time checking your shoulder alignment by doing this drill: You will be able to train yourself to line up parallel to the target line every time!
