Hole #13 at Mountain Shadows Golf Club

Hole #13 at Mountain Shadows Golf Club, Paradise Valley, AZ

I will never forget February 7th, 2012. It was the day I made my first hole-in-one. The life events that happened that day make the hole-in-one all the more special.

It was a Tuesday, and at that time I was in the habit of playing the Mountain Shadows Golf Club skins game every Tuesday at 12pm.

But that Tuesday I was pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to play any golf. I had injured my left elbow lifting weights the day before, and I could not straighten my left arm past a 90 degree angle. I remember wondering what I was going to do that afternoon because I couldn’t practice, I couldn’t play the skins game and I didn’t have any lessons scheduled.

That morning I had several errands lined up and a meeting with another teaching pro named Bob at 10:30am. I arrived at the meeting and promptly locked my keys in the car. My arm wouldn’t straighten, my keys were locked in the car; it was looking like it was going to be a rough day. Little did I know that things were about to change!

I went in to meet with Bob. I wanted to get his advice on the proposal I had been working on to get sponsors for my tournaments. We talked for a while and then he asked if he could pray for me. He prayed for me and my family. I can’t remember exactly what he prayed, but when I walked out of the meeting I realized I could straighten my arm!

In the meantime, AAA roadside assistance came and unlocked my car. It was already close to 12pm, but I was so excited I could straighten my arm that I drove straight to Mountain Shadows. I was late, so I had to miss the first 3 holes and joined up with a group on hole number 4.

Nine holes later I made my first hole-in-one on number 13 at Mountain Shadows. It was just a 78 yard sand wedge, but I hit it perfectly and the ball spun right into the hole.  It was a huge blessing from God.

That night I wrote this note: “The hole-in-one paid $150. Praise God for showing his power to me today. We still need about $1,500 for bills over the next five days, but I am trusting God and I know He will provide!”

And you know what? God did provide and He keeps providing exactly what we need. He is the source of all of the peace in my life and I can’t wait to see what He’s going to do next!
