I love playing golf. I love the anticipation I feel driving to the course. I love the feeling of butterflies in my stomach before I tee off. I love making birdies on 3 holes in a row. I love the competition, and it is a big part of my life.
3 months ago I pulled the rear deltoid muscle in my left shoulder. I have tried to play a few times since then, but the injury has made it impossible for me to swing. I’m now in the middle of an extended rest from playing.
At first, not being able to play golf seemed like a big deal to me. However, as time has passed I am starting to see what a blessing this time has been in my life. I’m getting to see life from a different perspective.
I had always believed that I would be fine if something like an injury were to keep me from playing golf. Well, now I get to see what it’s like. And to tell you the truth, I’m doing well! The reason I am doing well is that God has given me peace. At the end of July, about the time I got hurt, someone
gave me a list of Bible verses. About two weeks later, a totally unrelated person gave me the same list of bible verses. To top it, off when I was in church about a month later, those same verses were printed in the church bulletin. If you would like to know what they are, send me an email and I will send them to you. These verses have kept me viewing life from the right perspective and have saved me from wallowing around in self-pity. I am sure the injury will heal soon, but the lessons I’m learning now will last forever. I can’t wait to get back to competition.
Did I mention that I love playing golf?
