• Tournament Recap: Pro-Scratch Golf League at Mountain Shadows Golf Club

Overview: A perfect day on the course with 75 degree temps and clouds with no wind. Mountain Shadows is a really tricky par 3 course with lots of 2 and 3 tiered greens that make you hit the ball in the correct spots if you want to get a good score. My ball striking and putting was solid with 9 birdies.

    Highlites:

#1. Pin was back, right and hit sand wedge from 99 yards to 12 feet and made the uphill putt for birdie.

#6. Pin was front, left and hit gap wedge from 106 yards to 10 feet and made the downhill putt for birdie.

#7. Pin was middle, left tucked against the water and hit lob wedge from 76 yards to 8 feet left of the hole and made the flat, straight putt for birdie.

#9. Pin was middle, right and hit lob wedge from 92 yards to 10 feet and made the right to left putt for birdie.

#10. Pin was middle, left and hit lob wedge from 96 yards to 12 feet and made the putt for birdie.

#12. Pin was just on top of the ridge and hit the exact distance 91 yards to 14 feet right of the flag. Then made the left-to-right putt for birdie.

#13. Pin was front, right and hit sand wedge from 105 yards to 5 feet and made the putt for birdie.

#15. Pin was back right and hit 7-iron from 190 yards to 6 feet and made the putt for birdie.

#16. Pin was back, left and hit gap wedge from 116 yards to 12 feet past the pin and made the uphill putt for birdie.

    Learning Opportunities:

#8. I hit 9-iron to a front pin that was 168 yards away. It was the correct club, but I pulled it left. Then, I had an easy chip but left it 10′ short because I was protecting against going too long because there was a downslope after the pin. In the future, I will totally commit to my landing spot instead of worrying about the trouble while I swing.

Positives: Hitting 16 greens and having 23 putts is a combination that I am very happy with. I didn’t make any bad swings except for the pulled iron shot on number 8.

Areas to improve: I will stay committed to my landing spot while hitting my chip shots. Also, I didn’t have the correct speed on 3 of my putts today because I lost focus over the ball. When I lose focus, I will back away and start my routine over.
