• In All Situations: Trust God

My game is really sharp and I am capable of playing great golf right now. However, during my last tournament, from about the 7th hole on the first day to the end of the second day, I was getting very frustrated. I was making silly bogeys, and giving away strokes. The more bogeys I made, the more frustrated I became.

Finally on the 14th tee box, the second day, I decided to change my mental routine and relax more while I hit the shots. Three holes later after one bogey, one triple and a quadruple bogey, I realized that this was a big mistake. I went back to my normal intensity and managed to birdie the last two holes to finish with 44 on the back nine for a second round 80.

A friend of mine named Craig invited me to lunch after the round. I told Craig about my frustrating experiences on the golf course and he had some very wise words for me. He told me about a mother who had lost her 2 year old son in a drowning accident. After the funeral for her son the mother was shoveling dirt on the casket, saying “I trust you Lord, I trust you.”

Now, I know that golf is not a life or death situation, but I really am inspired to have faith in God after hearing that moving story. Does God just call me to trust Him when I am winning the tournament? No, He wants me to trust Him through every situation. Does God want me to just trust Him and glorify Him only when my family is healthy and everything is going great? Again, No! He wants me to trust Him in all situations.

God will lead me through things that I don’t understand, but I am called to trust Him. God has given me the ability to be very intense at times when I am competing and to get into a mode that makes me pull off amazing shots and scores that I don’t even understand. However, I believe that He wants me to constantly know that it is only by the grace of God that these results happen.

During the third round of the tournament I made some bogeys and was tempted to be frustrated. Especially on the 15th hole after I three-putted for bogey from 15 feet. I ended up shooting 73 in the final round but during the round I could easily say; “I trust you Lord, and I will give You the glory for whatever result may come. I am going to do my best with what you have blessed me with and remain faithful to You.”

Praise God for giving me encouragement through my friend Craig!

This is an inspiring and encouraging testimony Grant; a real life example (even two) of the scripture on your home page (Proverbs 3:5-6). Thanks for taking the time to share it.
