• Pointing the Left Toe Out

left toe out set up1Pointing the left toe out is an often overlooked, important part of the set-up. In the picture above, you can see that I am pointing my left foot out about 20 degrees at the set-up of my full swing.

left toe out finish1…And on my finish, my left foot is in the same position.

Setting up this way is important to the success of your finish, and to the health of your knee.

When you finish a full swing, you want your belt buckle to point directly at the target. If you start the swing with your lead foot square to the target line instead of toed out, you will put too much torque on your left knee as you turn to the finish. This can be especially hard on your knee if you are wearing golf spikes which won’t allow your foot to swivel into the finish position.

Always remember: Setting up correctly will always help you finish correctly. And, as I always say: “If you know where to start the swing and where to finish the swing, the swing itself is pretty easy.”

Interesting concept, my left foot often ends up that way with out trying, I will try it on purpose because I believe your right when it comes as a less stressful twist on the knee.
